Eliciting evidence is a foundational practice in preparing students to become self-directed (Future Ready.) Eliciting evidence is a part of the diagnose and design from the Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) framework. After establishing learning goals and success criteria from the standards, eliciting evidence activities are used to guide instructional next steps for both teachers and students. Eliciting evidence goes well beyond a quiz or a test. It is providing students with various ways to show their current thinking and understanding through verbal, written, and action-oriented tasks. Teachers learn the critical considerations needed in planning and conducting eliciting evidence activities.
