Learner Agency: More than Choice (Podcast Series-Episode 1) Jen Sigrist defines learner agency as "the capacity and freedom of learners to exercise choice regarding what is to be learned and to co-create how that learning happens." Commonly thought to be just giving students choice, student agency can be the catalyst for engaging students in deep learning that connects content, interests, and social-emotional learning competencies. Student agency includes giving students a voice in their learning. When students are co-designers in the learning process, they are more engaged. Building in self-reflection allows students to consider goals, interests and learning styles.
