Learner Agency (Episode 2): Structures and Scaffolds

Episode 2: Structures and Scaffolds continues the conversation about learner agency and provides a deeper look at instructional shifts teachers can make when embedding more learner agency in their instruction. By focusing on the big ideas for learning instead of checking off standards, teachers free up time, providing students more opportunities to take control of their learning. Supporting students with daily check-ins, project planning templates and reflection questions helps build the independence of students. While direct instruction is still important, the freedom and capacity students have to explore, explain, and evaluate their ideas highlights the teacher's role as coach and guide.
