Learner Agency: Building Autonomy. Helping students take ownership in their learning leads them from compliance behaviors to demonstrating independence. Many teachers struggle to let learners navigate the productive struggle that happens while learning. While done with the best intentions, when we see kids struggling we jump in, take control, and start telling them how it should be done. This robs students not only of the deep understanding that comes with figuring things out, but it also removes the chance to build stamina, persevere and experience the sense of accomplishment when finally accomplishing the goal.
